THE PROBLEM: 
Today, neither visual acuity tests or Amsler Grid tests provide adequate subjective information about the macula.  Visual acuity tests are designed to describe the focal point of the eye.  Amsler Grid tests provide limited information about the macula.  Most doctors agree, that the Amsler Grid test is not sensitive enough to pick up macular degenerative problems early enough.

EARLY DETECTION
Today, early detection of macular and paramacular field anomalies has never been more important.  We know that with early detection of at least some types of macular degeneration, vision loss can be minimized and in some cases improved. The KFT has been found to detect early stages of AMD and other macular and paramacular disturbances even when careful fundus examinations and other field testing instruments revealed nothing.  With all of the new pharmaceuticals (ex. avastin) and techniques on the horizon, more sensitive testing and evaluation devices are needed to provide us with more critical empirical differentiations.  The KFT is a better instrument that will produce earlier reliable evaluations and outcomes.

ANALYTICAL  CAPABILITIES
The KFT is loaded with analytical capabilities that gives the examiner a wide range of parameters to display results.  Field defect size changes can be displayed chronologically over an infinite length of time.   Additionally, color  comparisons and contrast comparisons can also be displayed over time.  The internal computer stores patient data and the printout is loaded with information which is easy to interpret.

CLINICAL & RESEARCH  APPLICATION
The KFT has a wide range of variables which may make it not only a clinical standard but ideal for academic and research purposes. Patients with large central vision losses can be tested just as critically as patients who are not aware of any loss.  Clinically, the "screening" mode of the test takes only 30 seconds.  This makes it ideal in a pre-test area.  Once the test picks up a defect it switches into the Diagnostic mode.  The diagnostic mode fits all of the parameters of CPT 92082 or 92083 for reimbursement.  Plus the "Diagnostic" mode only takes 5 to 10 minutes.  The KFT may soon become a standard part of a pre-test sequence.

ON-LINE  SUPPORT  &  UPDATES
We provide on-line support to address all issues.  Each KFT system can be accessed from our offices.  This allows us to see exactly what each doctor or office staff sees so we can be more effective in our communication.  Additionally, all updates are managed with our secure web connection (ethernet). 

ON-LINE  DATA STORAGE
Patient data storage is also available on our highly secure, RUSH Instrument servers.  This is a really great feature because in addition to the detailed patient printout, the results can be viewed and analyzed from other examination rooms or even other offices, clinics or retinal specialists.  Where ever the web is available, just enter the password.
